January retail sales begin year slow but show annual gains

January retail sales data issued by the United States Department of Commerce and the National Retail Federation were mildly mixed but on similar trajectories over all. Commerce reported that January retail sales at $439.8 billion were down 0.8 percent compared to December and up 3.3 percent compared to January 2014, and total retail sales from November 2014 through January 2015 were up 3.8 percent annually.

Obama administration may double salary threshold for overtime exemption

Policy experts expect forthcoming rules from the Obama administration to potentially double the salary threshold for exemptions to overtime pay requirements. Under current guidelines, employers may exempt salaried workers earning at least $23,660 annually from requirements that they pay overtime rates for more than 40 hours of work per week.

Procurement function in medium-sized companies needs a management framework

Shippers, third parties oppose FMCSA's proposed rules against truck driver 'coercion'
Logistics Management
Shippers and transportation intermediaries are opposing a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration proposal designed against putting undue pressure on truck drivers to violate hours of service and other rules. While good in theory, shippers say, the result would be impracticable, expensive, difficult to enforce and might end up doing more harm than good.

Amazon drone plans shot down by authorities

Amazon's drone delivery plans appear to have been shot down by U.S. regulators, who have proposed new rules that would require operators to keep the flying machines in their line of sight. The Federal Aviation Administration said that operators of commercial unmanned aircraft would need to see the drone with "unaided vision," in draft rules published on Feb. 15.
