How does your warehouse measure up?

The 2015 version of WERC DC Measures is out!... findings of a survey of benchmarking measures among WERC Members and DC Velocity readers.

Are we headed in the right direction? Are we able to show that logistics provides value to our company? How do we communicate that warehousing and distribution are achieving the goals our company has set? These are the questions we ask ourselves to better understand our role in contributing to our company's performance. For many, the answers begin with the performance measures we report in DC Measures. Download your copy of DC MEASURES >>

Don't forget the service aspect of warehousing
Ken Ackerman
Because warehousing is essentially a service business, the nurturing of relationships is at the heart of success in this industry. We will explore examples of both the good and the bad, and each will remain anonymous. How many examples can you find of service companies that have forgotten the meaning of service? Think about your contacts with airlines, banks, your favorite retailer or others. How many of the people you talk with display a sincere desire to be helpful?

Forget the supply chain. It's all about the network
Logistics Management

For that reason, there was a lot of discussion about robots in the warehouse, 3-D printing on the manufacturing floor, mobility, drones and driverless vehicles in logistics, and digital business.

E-commerce growth pushes higher warehouses
Food Logistics
The e-commerce boom is changing the way industrial properties such as warehouses and fulfillment centers are built, causing developers to build higher warehouses, according to The Wall Street Journal. Eight feet of added ceiling height may not seem like a lot, but for warehouse builders, the extra clearance can be the difference between an empty building and one that attracts a tenant such as Walmart.com or Amazon.com.
