  • Improve your warehouse by using what you already have
    By Ken Ackerman
The process of warehousing is essentially a management of space and time. We improve this process by optimizing the use of available space, and then developing ways to handle more material in less time. Other features can also be valuable, including improvement of housekeeping, reduction of damage and an enhancement of accuracy in shipping and receiving. However, space and time management remain the fundamental starting points. Before we spend excessive time and money committing to high-tech applications, why don't we find ways to better use the things that we have right now?

Facility design factors to consider when expanding operations
    Supply Chain Digest
As the U.S. economy continues to slowly improve most companies are seeing solid increases in unit volume sales and inventory that are putting the squeeze on existing facility space and design. In addition, many e-commerce retailers are adopting tactics to facilitate direct supplier-to-consumer transactions. Unable to transition from bulk to direct shipping in their current facilities, suppliers are strategically investing in industrial real estate to reduce their shipping times and operating expenses in order to remain competitive.

Why leaders should hand out compliments, not just criticism
    By Christina Nava
Let's face it: No one wants to work under a leader who rebukes more than commends. After a while, it becomes exhausting. The purpose of any criticism in the workplace is to express disapproval. It is to indicate that the work someone has put in isn't as good as it could be. While this negative feedback is meant to bring about improvement in an employee, too much of it often produces damaging effects. As a leader, it's important to be aware that constant criticism has the power to affect an employee's self-esteem.
