7 signs your supply chain needs a redesign
DC Velocity
Because supply chain redesigns are expensive and time-consuming, they often get deferred. But if your company shows any of these warning signs, you probably can't afford to put it off any longer.
Another link in the chain: Using project management to drive the supply chain
The 21st Century Supply Chain
Before integrated project management came along, direct links between the supply chain and project management didn't exist. Such relationships led to project management features where supply and demand can directly link to and impact project tasks.

Moving toward a resilient supply chain
SupplyChainBrain
A company's very lifeblood turns on resilience in its supply chain, says John Mascaritolo, professor of supply chain management at Clayton State University.
What are the ramifications of shippers asking 3PLs to take on more supply chain risk?
Supply Chain Digest
Evidence is mounting that shippers are asking their 3PLs to take on more supply chain risks contractually, a potentially major inflection point in logistics outsourcing. Risk management of course is a sort of "megatrend" in supply chain management right now, with seemingly every company looking to reduce its risk exposure. Risk management takes up an increasingly significant amount of most supply chain executives' time versus even just five years ago.

Distribution center worker cross-training: Relieving the bottleneck
By Adam Hertzman
On my first day of class in Operations 101 at business school, my professor taught us about bottlenecks — situations in which your ability to move inventory through a system is limited by a single constraint, or bottleneck. Relieve the choke point, we were told, and more inventory flows through the entire system. Imagine my surprise later in my career upon visiting so many distribution centers to see them treat each task in isolation.
Industry Pulse: Who is typically responsible for bottlenecks in your facility?
Last week's survey: Do leaders take time to review your organization's current methods?

The most overlooked leadership skill
Forbes
Peter Bregman, a contributor for Forbes, writes: "Typically, we choose our leaders for their skill at conveying messages clearly and powerfully. But, in my experience, it's their ability to receive messages that distinguishes the best leaders from the rest."
Which behaviors must leaders avoid?
Harvard Business Review
If you want to empower, engage or motivate others, don't just focus on increasing your positive behaviors. Pay attention to what you need to stop doing as well. Why? Because people remember the bad more than the good.

Lean your warehouse workforce
DC Velocity
Warehouse and distribution center managers spend a lot of time trying to figure out how to handle the greatest amount of product in as little time as possible, with the highest level of service, and at the lowest possible cost. Yet despite their best efforts, they still may overlook opportunities to achieve that goal.

Leading people in an anxious world
Harvard Business Review
Karen Firestone writes, "Safety is now Americans' overriding concern. Several years ago, as I sat in a secondary school board meeting, the visiting headmaster of a K-8 school was asked what he considered the highest priority for parents in choosing high schools. I was astounded when he said 'safety' rather than, for example, 'quality of education.' But that was just a hint of how Americans' safety fears would blossom in the years to come. We have become the most anxious of nations, fearing terrorists, gun rampage, sexual assault, hurricanes, tornadoes, snowstorms, identity theft, discrimination and germs, among other things, and not necessarily in that order. CEOs and managers need to understand what that means to their organizations."
Logistics gets the celebrity treatment
DC Velocity
It's a given that unless someone works in or has some connection with freight transportation, warehousing, or material handling, they're pretty much oblivious to what goes on behind the scenes in these areas. So it was surprising indeed to happen across a couple of instances of television and film stars connecting with our industry.
