Real-time control speeds customer orders through the DC
    Supply Chain Digest
Going back a few years, DC mangers had to wait until the end of the day to find out if they hit their target numbers — too late to do anything about it. Now, with real-time performance displays, managers can see whether they are hitting the numbers incrementally throughout the day, and if not, what areas are falling behind. This then allows management to adjust operations by using the real-time information to balance demand for products with the resources and workload in the facility to quickly get back on track.

Most managers think of themselves as coaches
    Harvard Business Review
As a manager, do you think of yourself as a leader or as a coach? Do you, for instance, feel it's important that your staff see you as an expert or do you prefer to create an egalitarian environment? Are you the person who solves problems or helps your staff come up with their own solutions? Are you more comfortable being directive or collaborative?

Developing dashboards: The right data for warehouse managers
    By Ken Ackerman
Like the dashboard on your car, your business system should be designed to provide the essential information that warehouse managers must have in order to know exactly how their operation is performing. But many systems are "data rich, information poor," also known as DRIP. Because so much information is available on contemporary warehouse management systems, some managers cannot resist the temptation to put far more metrics in a warehouse dashboard then you will find in the dashboard on your car.

    Material Handling & Logistics
Companies are increasing their investments in equipment and systems that keep track of inventory and customer information and improve order fulfillment, according to an annual market report from MHI. However, these companies don't always seek the guidance they need to make wise choices. Their spending is a response to the need to contain operational costs, improve responsiveness to customer demands and increase production capacity and capabilities.

Voice: A perfect fit for omnichannel distribution
    DC Velocity
In the brave new world of retail distribution, companies must be flexible, accurate, and fast. That's especially true for those involved in omnichannel distribution, where retail, wholesale, catalog, and direct-to-consumer orders may be processed and shipped from the same facility.
