A new era for supply chains as faster IT systems push data into the driving seat
    The Loadstar
The natural tension between supply chain and procurement departments in major shippers — between logistics and finance — is coming to an end, as a new era of available data will allow financial operations to be integrated into supply chains, experts predict. Armin Sarstedt, vice president of the manufacturing and technology group at Intel, said the rapidly changing dynamics of the smartphone and computer markets were forcing companies such as Intel to radically overhaul their supply chains — a process that could only be undertaken with high-speed access to vast amounts of data.

The critical importance of warehouse floors
    Ken Ackerman
The single most important element of warehouse construction is the quality of the floor. As stacking heights have increased, floor quality has become even more critical. Voters in the Republican-controlled states of Alaska, Arkansas, Nebraska and South Dakota will consider ballot initiatives in November that would raise the minimum wage above the national rate of $7.25 per hour.
