Supply Chain Digest    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
How do companies rate the specific functional capabilities of the warehouse and transportation management systems? That's a question Supply Chain Digest has rarely if ever seen asked. Recent research from Chief Supply Chain Officer Insights took a look at that issue, finding that many current WMS and TMS users see weakness in many higher-end areas of funtionality, perhaps good news in a sense for providers of WMS and TMS software, as perhaps many companies are looking for something a little better. A large percentage of even many large firms have aging WMS and TMS solutions. More

Storage: A conventional approach to an everyday problem
Modern Materials Handling    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Bob Trebilcock writes, "I may have been an English major with limited mechanical ability, but I love watching machines at work. It's one of the reasons I get a kick out of shows like ProMat. It's also a reason I like writing about automation. When you talk on a daily basis to companies that are implementing automation in their DCs, its easy to think that automation is the solution to every company's productivity and efficiency problems." To motivate people, give them something to be proud of
Harvard Business Review    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
While people expect fair pay for their services, we all know that money isn't king. Nevertheless, when it comes to business we all too often act as if it were. We think purely in terms of salaries, bonuses, and people's positions on the org chart. While we pay lip-service to the idea that people may have non-financial motivation for their work — acknowledgement, appreciation, pride in accomplishment, enjoyment and so forth — we spend all our time working out how to incentivize our workforce with financial rewards. The art of survival in a supply chain ecosystem
Material Handling & Logistics    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The last five years proved we are more vulnerable to global events than we ever imagined. Even if you never felt the direct impact, chances are you experienced second and the third-degree effects. This should remind us we all live in an "ecosystem." This is because supply chains are built by engineers, not psychologists or political science professionals. Their aim is to maximize the benefits accrued by a highly organized network of partners. Fans cure sweating slab syndrome
Material Handling & Logistics    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Spring and fall herald pleasant weather in many areas, with warm days and cool nights. However, the same combination that makes outdoor activities pleasant can wreak havoc in industrial facilities. Temperature and humidity swings create condensation on concrete slab floors common in many industrial settings. Known as "sweating slab," this sheen of water can cause big issues with employee safety and product integrity. The following are a few of the common questions about sweating slab, and an example of a company that solved its perspiration problem. More
