Last chance for a Baja 2013-2014 Biosphere tag this year
Wild Sheep Foundation
The Wild Sheep Foundation has two remaining desert bighorn sheep tags available on auction at WSF/FNAWS Chapter Banquets in 2013. We have two Baja Sur El Vizcaino Biosphere permits available for the November 2013 through March 2014 Mexican desert bighorn season. These permits are in addition to the 32 permits we sold during the Jan. 31-Feb. 2 Wild Sheep Foundation Convention "The Sheep Show" held in Reno, Nev., which raised more than $3.1 million for wild sheep and other wildlife.

Shotgun shooting tips: Seeing is the key to hitting
Outdoor Life
Being blessed with binocular vision is a wonderful thing. The subconscious coordination we've developed during evolution among our hands, brain and eyes gives us all we need to smash true pairs in flight or bring down a bird flushing wild from cover. The only time we miss is when we put impediments between the target and our innate shotgunning ability — impediments that keep us from seeing the target as well as we might and prevent our brains and body from performing their task.

Calls for Colorado hunting boycott produce fear of economic losses
The Denver Post
Two words that nobody in Meeker, Colo. wants to hear are "hunting boycott." Hunting is the economic lifeblood in the seat of northwest Colorado's Rio Blanco County, home to the largest elk herd outside of Alaska. So, calls for a Colorado boycott have caught the attention of local merchants and outfitters. "It's definitely a topic of discussion in town," said Beth Willey, tourism coordinator at the Meeker Chamber of Commerce. "We get a lot of our revenue from hunting."

La Sal Mountains may become home to Rocky Mountain goats
The Times-Independent
It may someday be possible to view Rocky Mountain goats treading carefully among high alpine ledges and cliffs in the La Sal Mountains near Moab. The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources wants to introduce goats there, one of four places in the state where the agency's management schedule calls for adding the species. "It has the potential to enhance someone's recreational experience to be hiking and see a mountain goat," said Justin Shannon, wildlife manager for the DWR.

Nevada: Anti-bear hunting measure awaits committee hearing
Congressional Sportsman Foundation
As one of the fundamental tenants of the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation, science is a crucial component of our country's successful efforts to professionally manage wildlife in the public trust. Unfortunately, certain efforts at the state level seek to undermine the scientific evidence gathered by trained biologists by taking control away from state game and fish agencies and the Wildlife Commissioners who are entrusted to make sure we have the ability to maintain viable wildlife populations in both the near and long term.

Organizers of the Rocky Mountain Western States Regional IDPA Championship, initially scheduled to take place July 4-6 in Montrose, Colo., have announced that the match is being canceled in the wake of Colorado's recently passed gun control laws. An estimated 300-plus shooters from the neighboring states and across the country were expected to attend the three-day competitive shooting event. This is the second shooting competition to abandon the state after a recent announcement by firearms maker Ruger that it was moving the 2013 Ruger Rimfire Challenge World Championship out of Colorado.
