Study: Tax Compliance Costs Top $230 Billion
The Hill
U.S. taxpayers spent roughly $233.8 billion in 2014 complying with the tax code, according to a new study, a figure larger than the economy of Ireland, Portugal or Pakistan. The national taxpayer advocate, an in-house IRS watchdog, has estimated that taxpayers spend some 6.1 billion hours a year on tax compliance.

The 9 States With the Highest Property Taxes

Property taxes tend to be unpopular with Americans, but residents of several states have even more reason to grumble. These nine states rank as carrying the highest property tax burdens for their residents out of all 50 U.S. states, according to a new study from WalletHub. Aside from the high tax bills, there's another common theme: Many of these states are located in the Northeast.

IRS Will Do More to Control Excess IRA Contributions

The Internal Revenue Service plans to take further steps to discourage taxpayers from exceeding the limits on contributions to individual retirement accounts within a single year. According to a new report from the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration, the IRS needs to take action to address the problem of excess contributions to individual retirement accounts.
