May 1: The New Deduction for Flow-Through Entities

The study group will cover the new 20 percent deduction for flow-through entities. It will cover how the deduction applies to general as well as specified service businesses. Finally, the impact of the deduction on taxpayers at various taxable income levels will be discussed.
May 8: Reporting by US Owners of Foreign Entities
Presented by James Lunch
This program will discuss completing Form 5471 (U.S. owners of foreign corporations), Form 8865 (U.S. owners of foreign partnerships) and Form 8858 (U.S. owners of foreign disregarded entities). We will also discuss the consequences of not filing the forms and how to correct previous nonfiling.

As a dually licensed CPA and lawyer, Judy Vorndran leads the state and local tax practice at TaxOps and is the president of the AAA-CPA Colorado Chapter. She is also a member of the governor's task force to simplify Colorado sales tax, which puts her at the table with lawmakers who, like Judy, are advocating for change that will help businesses and consumers. Judy has been passionately pursuing changes across the nation to make state sales and use tax systems less taxing. This work has resulted in positive tax reforms in a half-dozen states and continues today.
Previously, Judy was the first National Tax Resource at a Top 100 CPA Firm, where she launched the firm's state and local tax practice. She also spent 14 years focusing on state and local tax at PwC and Deloitte, extensively traveling the United States helping clients implement best practices and reduce tax risks.
Judy is a frequent speaker, writer and instructor to business executives and industry practitioners. Her state and local tax compliance and consulting practice areas include: tax audit and controversy assistance, nexus studies, taxability analysis, amnesty and voluntary disclosure agreements, transaction planning and due diligence and apportionment analysis.

It will be difficult for Seattle to top 2017 for the sheer number of new or higher taxes considered: a city income tax, foreign buyers' and luxury real estate taxes, soda taxes, short-term rental taxes, a higher parking tax and a business head tax. But it won't be for lack of trying. After a proposal for a 4.8 cent per employee hour tax fell short last year, the City Council is back with a new version: a 26.042 cent per employee hour tax.
