The 6 Most Ridiculous Tax Extenders
As part of their year-end budget deliberations, members of Congress are considering which special tax breaks to renew before the 2015 tax filing season begins and it's too late for filers to take advantage of them.
Since 1998, a package of tax breaks have expired and retroactively extended seven times, earning them the "tax extenders" label. At the end of 2013, 55 such temporary tax breaks in the federal tax code expired.

Boeing, Ford Among Firms Where CEO Pay Tops Taxes
Boeing Co., Ford Motor Co. and Chevron Corp. are among 29 U.S. companies whose CEOs were compensated more last year than their corporations paid in federal income taxes, according to a policy and research firm whose mission is challenging corporate influence.
The 29 companies reported $24 billion in U.S. pretax profits and received $238 million in tax benefits, according to the report by the Institute for Policy Studies in conjunction with the Center for Effective Government.

The Georgia Aquarium is hardly a showcase in Atlanta urban renewal. The largest marine exhibit in the United States sits near the World of Coca-Cola museum, CNN headquarters, the city's lavish sports stadiums and its famed Centennial Olympic Park — an area more playground than poverty-stricken. Yet when the aquarium's managers set out to build a new dolphin exhibit, sponsored by AT&T no less, they made use of a lucrative federal tax break, known as the New Markets Tax Credit, intended as a tool to expand investment in the country's poorest localities.
