FDA grants Cytori clearance for fat graft device

Cytori has received 510(k) clearance from the FDA for the Puregraft 850 System for body contouring using a patient's own fat. The Puregraft 850 product line extension provides optimized and sterile processing of up to 850 mL of tissue, a significantly larger volume than the Puregraft 250, which received a 510(k) in January 2010.More

The public seems to have a growing fascination with at-home hand-held laser and light devices, as dermatologists try to figure out how and if these products fit into practice, says Dr. Joel Schlessinger. Schlessinger, a dermatologist in Omaha, Neb., and director of the Cosmetic Surgery Forum conference, spoke on the topic of hand-held devices at the 2011 Forum in Las Vegas. While available at-home options for hair removal and skin rejuvenation encroach in dermatologists' fee-for-service offerings, he says, the devices are not strong enough to replace what dermatologists do.More
New procedure makes hyperhidrosis no sweat

Ultrasound treatment can reduce excessive sweating in the underarms by nearly 80 percent, according to a new study. Researchers used a "microfocused" ultrasound to target the sweat glands in 14 men and women, aged 18 to 75, says Dr. Mark Nestor, a dermatologist and voluntary associate professor of dermatology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
