Writing in Clinical Risk, a publication from the Royal Society of Medicine, Dr Michael Mercer states that more stringent control is needed to clamp down on patients lives being put in jeopardy. Fat-dissolving procedure carries infection risks

French researchers are calling into question the safety of a cosmetic procedure that offers to melt away fat without surgery, exercise or pills. The doctors, writing in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases, warn that the procedure, known as mesotherapy, can also leave patients with particularly hard-to-treat and potentially disfiguring bacterial infections. Mesotherapy involves the injection of a reportedly fat-dissolving solution into unwanted fat deposits. Over weeks or months, the broken down fat disappears as it is absorbed by the body. More

There is mounting concern about a vaginal plastic surgery procedure more and more Australian women are having. Each year more than 1,200 Australian women undergo surgery on their genitalia in a procedure known as labioplasty. Doctors and surgeons fear that some women may be having the operation unnecessarily and there are concerns about operations being done by unqualified medical professionals. In Britain, where the procedure is equally popular, medical experts are warning of a shocking lack of information about the risks and long-term impact.
