What really killed the beauty queen?
CNN Health Share
When Argentine beauty queen Solange Magnano
approached Dr. Guillermo Blugerman in 2004 about helping her achieve a flatter stomach, the plastic surgeon says, he obliged with liposuction. But when she returned five years later requesting silicone injections for a higher, firmer rear end, he turned her away. "I said this was not allowed to be done in Argentina," Blugerman said on the telephone from his Buenos Aires office. Blugerman, the president of the Argentina Association of Medicine and Cosmetic Surgery said he believes Magnano then
went in search of someone who would give her the injections she wanted. More

Going to bat for tax-free Botox
The Wall Street Journal

Under the Senate's proposed health care reform bill, a tax would be levied on certain elective cosmetic procedures to help defray the enormous projected costs of the overhaul. The 5 percent excise tax, which would be collected on the physician-level, would be cover such popular procedures as breast augmentation, liposuction and Botox
injections. Not surprisingly, companies like Allergan Inc., a leading marketer of breast implants and the wrinkle-battlers Botox and Juvederm, has declared war on the Senate measure, going so far as launching a Web-based petition drive.

Facelift without surgery: FDA-approved Ulthera
The Plastic Surgery Channel
Share

Approved by the FDA in September 2009, Ulthera is sweeping the nation as the newest non-invasive facelift technology. Ulthera works through focused ultrasound. Focused ultrasound allows doctors to look deep inside the skin and treat areas without surgery. "We can actually see the layers, the skin, the fat, the muscle," says Dr. Barry DiBernardo. "And then we target the muscle layer that we pull in a face lift, and it locks in on that layers and fires
little pulses which tighten and shrink that layer."
