Online initiative engages patients by sharing physician notes
    Health Data Management
More than 5 million patients nationwide now have electronic access to their clinicians' visit notes through an effort that allows them to read these medical notes online after an appointment. The use of technology to better engage patients in their own care is at the heart of OpenNotes, according to John Mafi, M.D., an internal medicine fellow at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, where outpatient notes written by clinicians in primary care and all medicine subspecialties are being shared.

What healthcare providers need to know about measles

Tips for finding quality patient portals
    News-Medical.net
Patient portals are a trending item in the healthcare industry, but what does the term "patient portal" really mean? And more importantly, what can a patient portal do for you? In reality, the patient portal moniker has become a confusing industry catch-all; patient portals from one vendor may provide entirely different levels of service and interactivity than another. Adding to the confusion is the fact that both may still fail to offer the services that you as a provider are looking for.

No evidence longer resident hours compromise patient safety
    Medscape Medical News
Benefit in continuity of care may outweigh risk for adverse events associated with residents' longer shifts, according to results from a randomized prospective study. The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education began recommending duty hour requirements for residents in 2003 (24 hours) and revised them in 2011 (16 hours for junior trainees and 24 hours for senior trainees), following preliminary evidence that restricting shifts improved patient safety and resident well-being.
