Registration Deadline Approaching: Legislative Day 2015
    AAHAM
Sponsored by The American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management (AAHAM), this event brings you face-to-face with the decision-makers in Washington who will determine the outcome of our industry's top legislative priorities.

Legislative Day is right around the corner, March 30-31. We are all very excited to present you with a jam-packed agenda for this year's trip to "The Hill". This year we are making appointments for you with both your senators and representatives. Those of you who have attended this event in the past can attest to the excitement of being part of a grassroots advocacy event such as this. With all of the issues and obstacles facing us in healthcare today, it is imperative that you take this opportunity to let your voice be heard in Washington. AAHAM is giving you the opportunity to personally make this happen. Don't let this once a year opportunity pass you by!

Due to the nature of this event and to allow sufficient time to set up legislative appointments, attendance is limited, and will be available on a first come, first served basis, so be sure to send in your registration form and payment today.

The deadline to register is March 9 and reserve your room at our special discounted AAHAM rate is March 6.

Pham ebola lawsuit could be landmark for patient safety
    Forbes
Some may dismiss the lawsuit that Dallas nurse Nina Pham has filed against Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas and parent company Texas Health Resources as frivolous, one merely looking to cash in on a high-profile case. Please, resist the urge. For anyone who cares about hospital safety, this looks like an important case.

Contact-free patient sensor reduces alarm fatigue
    Modern Healthcare
Avner Halperin and three colleagues were frustrated that their asthmatic children had to repeatedly go to the hospital. They were told early detection through algorithms interpreting data on respiratory rate and patterns would lead to earlier intervention and better outcomes. So they invented a sensor that monitors heart rate, respiratory rate and patient movement and does not require direct contact with the patient. It could sense wheezing or coughing.

State medical board licensing: Challenges for telemedicine
    By Christina Thielst
The pressures to reduce healthcare costs and improve access have never been greater. Everything from the Affordable Care Act to the "Silver Tsunami" of aging baby boomers requires a transformation of the healthcare delivery system. While telemedicine and other virtual forms of medical care are quickly being recognized as powerful solutions to these challenges, barriers to more widespread adoption remain. One of these is the long and complex process of obtaining licensure for physicians in the various states where patients are located.

Physician locum tenens rates near double digits
    HealthLeaders Media
"About 6 percent to 7 percent of physicians consider locum tenens to be their fulltime occupation and we anticipate that will grow to 11 percent of the workforce within the next 18 months," says the head of a healthcare temporary staffing firm.
