Credit guidelines: The secret weapon to reduce stress and increase collections
By Jan Keller
When was the last time you and your team had a meeting to review and collaborate on your expectations regarding collections? If you're like many, the honest answer is "never." No surprise, then, that most administrative team members are frustrated. The doctor wants them to "collect the money" and "make sure the patients pay," but that is the only guidance they are given. How to cut health costs in 1 easy step
The Fiscal Times
In a six-month study, researchers found that offering upfront price information decreased overall use of diagnostic tests by roughly 9 percent, saving hundreds of thousands of dollars. "There's a lot of waste in medicine because we don't have a sense of the costs of much of what we do," says Leonard S. Feldman, assistant professor at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Hospitals typically keep both patients and providers essentially blind to the cost of medical services, contributing to the astronomical cost of healthcare in the United States, researchers say.

How do patient engagement, retention impact meaningful use?
EHR Intelligence
The reputation of the small clinic is at stake with the increasingly complex conversations of digital health and hospital acquisitions taking place among physicians and patients. Historically, the smaller the clinic the more the reputation rests squarely on the shoulders of the physician. While that dedicated physician also represents the culture of care every day in that clinic, she is under increasing pressure to expand the patient experience beyond her exam room. The hospital system with its vast resources, in addition to dedicated physicians, is well underway in talking about this robust value proposition within the community. The common ground for the small clinic and the hospital lies in that very need to talk about the expansion of the patient experience beyond the exam room.

Becker's Hospital Review
While much has been published about the implementation of ICD-10 for hospitals, the body of knowledge for physician practices and medical groups is sorely lacking. Now is the time for providers to take matters into their own hands and ensure they are ready to take the leap from ICD-9 to ICD-10.
