  • Patient portals: Essential, but underused by physicians
    ModernMedicine Network
Primarily because of meaningful use stage 2, more and more physicians are using patient Web portals to communicate and share records with patients and for a variety of other functions. Stage 2 requires eligible professionals to send secure messages to at least 5 percent of their patients and to have the same percentage of patients "view, download or transmit" their electronic records. Patient portals are currently the main mechanism for practices to achieve these goals.

    mHealthNews

Yes, you have to pay for birth control, feds tell insurers
    NBC News
Insurance companies have to pay for birth control, mammograms and well-woman visits without charging co-pays and without a fight, the federal government said in a stern reminder. The 2010 Affordable Care Act sets out not only to get health insurance to all Americans, but to make sure that the policies people have cover basic care. It's also aimed at lowering costs. Providing women with birth control is cheaper than paying for unplanned pregnancies, and cancer screening can catch cancer while it's still easy and less expensive to treat — or can even prevent cancer altogether.
