Telemedicine offers lifesaving benefits for chronic disease patients
    Healio
The use of telemedicine to help manage chronic diseases offers benefits including fewer and shorter hospital stays, fewer emergency room visits, less severe illness and fewer deaths, according to a recently published study. The study by Rashid Bashshur, Ph.D. and colleagues found that telemedicine — defined by the study as "the delivery of health care via information and communication technology" — allows patients to become more involved in their own care, facilitates continuous monitoring and early detection of new and recurring symptoms and allows for prompt response to worsening illness.

    Healthcare IT News
The challenge for the Carolinas Healthcare System was to reduce the readmission rate for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The solution: predictive analytics. New FICO credit score formula may hurt medical collections
    By Christina Thielst
A new version of FICO's credit score formula will be launched this fall that could improve the chances of getting a mortgage. But it also has the potential to impact the collections and cash flow of healthcare providers. While this is good news for the mortgage industry and individuals wanting to finance or refinance, there may be some unintended consequences for medical and healthcare providers. Physicians, clinics, hospitals and other care providers may soon find some of their patients reprioritizing the debt they will pay off.
