  • Medicaid spending soars in expansion states

    Medicaid spending soared nearly 14 percent last year — its biggest annual increase in at least two decades — as a result of millions of newly eligible low-income enrollees signing up under the Affordable Care Act, according to a report released by the Kaiser Family Foundation. Total spending was highest in the 29 states that expanded Medicaid, the government insurance program for low-income and disabled people, under the health law.

    Payer vendor says ICD-10 going well, for now

    Payer software vendor and claims clearinghouse TriZetto Provider Solutions has seen a small uptick in insurers rejecting providers' ICD-10 claims as the new code set enters its third week. Overall, however, the changeover appears to be going well, says Paul Kaiser, senior vice president of the provider business unit for the Denver-based company.

    EHR vendors fire back at ONC data blocking report

    When the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT issued its report to Congress in April calling out EHR vendors for blocking the exchange of health information, it went more or less uncontested. Not anymore. The EHR Association, in fact, sent a letter to national coordinator Karen DeSalvo, MD, "urging caution" when determining exactly what qualifies as information blocking.
