Certification Update: The Certified Revenue Integrity Professional (CRIP)
    AAHAM
AAHAM announced a new mid-level certification at the 2014 Annual National Institute in San Diego, California, the Certified Revenue Integrity Professional. This certification is intended for individuals in the revenue cycle to help ensure that facilities effectively manage their facilities charge master, and bill and document appropriately for all services rendered to a patient. This certification requires an in-depth, working knowledge of various revenue cycle areas and proper skill sets needed to increase revenue and reimbursement for facilities. It also ensures that proper charging takes place to maintain compliance within the insurance payer programs. With the addition of this new certification, AAHAM now offers a complete career ladder, beginning with the CRCS and culminating with the CRCE.

How ACOs can improve patient engagement
    FierceHealthcare
Although Medicare's Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) have improved quality and netted savings, they must improve their patient engagement strategies, according to a Brookings Institution blog post. Research indicates that ACOs are having difficulty raising awareness among patients that have been assigned to an ACO — in fact, some patients don't even realize they're in an ACO. So patients may seek care outside their network.

    Healthcare Payer News
A new Republican majority focused on curbing regulation may give the healthcare industry the opposite of what most are looking for: uncertainty. Or they could turn to a fairly simple option to help the stakeholders long resistant to ICD-10.

Mixed results for 2014 healthcare ballot measures
    Healthcare Finance News
The Affordable Care Act wasn't directly on the ballot in any state, but voters did decide a host of health-related issues in the 2014 mid-term elections. And there was no clear theme to what won and lost. For example, voters in two states — North Dakota and Colorado — rejected so-called "personhood" amendments that would have recognized rights for unborn fetuses.

The trouble with putting care management in a box
    Healthcare Informatics
It seems as though no one can clearly define care management technology. Many see care management and the technologies that enable it in direct correlation with population health management. In that sense, care management could be described as the process of analyzing, identifying, monitoring, and improving the care of specific patients within a vulnerable population.
