The AAO-HNS' Government Affairs team continues to closely monitor an emerging Congressional proposal to address the flawed Medicare physician payment formula. As written, the proposal will exacerbate the current shortcomings of the system by compounding the SGR debt and ensuring even more drastic payment cuts in the future. Congress may begin consideration of the proposal later this week. On May 13, 2010, Representative John Sullivan (R-OK) introduced H.R. 5295, the "Healthcare Truth and Transparency Act of 2010." The AAO-HNS strongly supports H.R. 5295 and joined 13 organizations in voicing support for the legislation. The bill calls for greater transparency in the identification of healthcare providers, as well as their advertisements and marketing. Next Wednesday, May 26, is the deadline to submit your historical paper for presentation to the Otolaryngology Historical Society at the AAO-HNSF 2010 annual meeting. Filing Requirements for Medicare Fee-For-Service (FFS) Claims Share ![]() ![]() ![]()
Under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), claims for services furnished on or after January 1, 2010, must be filed within one calendar year after the date of service. Also, claims for services furnished before January 1, 2010, must be filed no later than December 31, 2010. The following rules apply to claims with dates of service prior to January 1, 2010. Claims with dates of service before October 1, 2009, must follow the pre-PPACA timely filing rules. Claims with dates of service October 1, 2009, through December 31, 2009, must be submitted by December 31, 2010.
