The Academy Has Sent a Formal Comment Letter to the Medical Director at United Healthcare Share ![]() ![]() ![]()
In response to United Health Group's recent initiative to provide a low-cost line of hearing aids and a web-based hearing test, the AAO-HNS has sent a formal comment letter to United Healthcare's Medical Director expressing concerns. The Alcon Foundation, AAOA, AAFPRS, AAO-HNSF, AHNS, AHRF, Triological, ALA, ANS, ARS, ASPO, The Doctors Company Foundation, Olympus, Oticon, and the Northwestern - Hugh Knowles Center are offering more than $850,000 in grants for research training, career development, and research projects to support all areas of otolaryngology. Letters of Intent (LOI) are due December 15, 2011, and full applications are due January 16, 2012. Once you submit your LOI, you will be granted access to the full application. More

The Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction (aka, the Super Committee) has until November 23, 2011, to submit its deficit reduction plan to Congress, but information about the cost saving proposal may become available sooner. A little less than two months remain before the final 2011 results are tabulated—encourage your peers to invest in ENT PAC today! *Contributions to ENT PAC are not deductible as charitable contributions for federal income tax purposes. Contributions are voluntary, and all members of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery have the right to refuse to contribute without reprisal. Federal law prohibits ENT PAC from accepting contributions from foreign nationals. By law, if your contributions are made using a personal check or credit card, ENT PAC may use your contribution only to support candidates in federal elections. All corporate contributions to ENT PAC will be used for educational and administrative fees of ENT PAC, and other activities permissible under federal law. Federal law requires ENT PAC to use its best efforts to collect and report the name, mailing address, occupation, and the name of the employer of individuals whose contributions exceed $200 in a calendar year.
Medicare Issues Final Medicare Physician Fee Schedule Share ![]() ![]() ![]()
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid issued the final Medicare Physician Fee Schedule for CY2012. The final rule calls for a 27.4% cut in physician payment unless Congress acts to stop the reduction. CMS also addressed some concerns the Academy presented in a comment letter sent to CMS. Medicare Open Enrollment Period Has Been Expanded by One Week: From October 15 - December 7 Share ![]() ![]() ![]()
People with Medicare can now review their drug and health plan coverage options for 2012 as part of the annual Medicare Open Enrollment Period. This year the Enrollment Period is early and has been expanded by one week to run from October 15 to December 7.
