Joint Commission Publishes Standards FAQ on OMS Hospital Admissions

 Over the years the AAOMS has maintained active dialogue with the Joint Commission (JC) to ensure that the JC standards do not negatively impact the ability of our members to practice their full scope of privileges. Since 2004, the AAOMS has expressed concern that many hospitals have misinterpreted one of the standards to require OMS to co-admit with an MD or DO. AAOMS leadership met several times with the JC leadership from 2004 through 2008 in an attempt to clarify this standard. I am pleased to inform you that our efforts were fruitful and in April 2009 the JC posted a FAQ clarifying the matter. More
