go without annual dental care, and most states lack key policies to ensure access to cost-saving preventive treatments, according to a study released by the Pew Center on the States. Six states received an "A" grade from the nonprofit policy analysis group for their dental health policies. But even children in those states have problems accessing care, the report said.

Does treating periodontal disease lead to fewer preterm births? The research is split, but a new study has found that women who have successful nonsurgical periodontal treatment during their pregnancy are less likely to have premature
babies. While previous studies have explored the effect of periodontal treatment, irrespective of efficacy of treatment, the current study determined whether successful periodontal treatment actually resulted in reduced infant prematurity, the researchers said.
