Don Brunette may well find himself named the patron saint of toothless hockey players. An oral biologist in the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of British Columbia, Brunette seeks to create a better dental implant by understanding how cells behave around different types of implant surfaces. For his research, Brunette draws upon sophisticated methods of
microfabrication and nanofabrication that can produce precisely characterized surfaces. He can then examine how cells respond to specific features and shapes of the implant's surface.

Tooth whitening may improve oral health of elderly

A tooth-bleaching agent may improve the oral health of elderly and special needs patients. That's according to U.S. dentists who have discovered that applying
the tooth whitener carbamide peroxide through a custom-fit mouth tray might combat problems associated with dexterity needed for flossing and brushing, as well as and dry mouth caused by certain medication. Dental experts at the Medical College of Georgia and Western University of Health Sciences suggest that standard oral hygiene can be difficult or impossible for patients with mental challenges or impaired manual dexterity.

One of the best ways to counter tooth loss is by the use of artificial tooth replacements. This procedure is known as a type of prosthetic dentistry. It also
is considered a form of cosmetic dentistry. Although there are many options for the restoration for missing teeth, implants have proven to be the most functionally durable and effective. Dental implants may be the only reasonable option for the restoration of the teeth functions and supporting structures.

Team building is in vogue. You probably have heard or seen management consultants as they enter the team-building part of their program. They typically comment that there is no "I" in the word "team." You think for a minute, scratch your head, and think, "I got it; there is no I in the word team, and that means what?" It means that in any organization a balance is needed between the mission, vision, and goals of the individuals who
comprise it and the mission, vision, and goals of the organization itself. (May require free registration to view article.)
