The World of Consulting—A Few Words of Advice
After 25+ years of working in clinical pharmacology within the pharmaceutical industry, I decided to begin consulting in 2008. Over the past eight years, many people have asked me to describe the world of consulting. For this article, I define consulting as one person working with companies, providing advice on various aspects of their development program.

For those seeking advice on whether they should consider consulting, I offer the following guidance.

CDC Makes Effort To Reduce Antibiotic Overprescribing

The overprescription of antibiotics in the U.S. is not a new phenomenon, and experts have warned healthcare providers about the dangerous implications for years. Despite these warnings, overprescribing persists, so the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the American College of Physicians have just issued some new advice specifically aimed at curbing antibiotic use for acute respiratory tract infections.

Pharmaceutical Companies Sign Declaration to Combat Antimicrobial Resistance

In a document released on Jan. 21, 2016 titled the Declaration on Combating Antimicrobial Resistance, 85 pharmaceutical, biotechnology, generic-drug, and diagnostic companies voiced their support of innovations that will assist in preventing drug-resistant infections. The companies released the declaration in collaboration with the Review on Antimicrobial Resistance, a group commissioned by the UK Prime Minister for the purpose of raising awareness for the economic issues surrounding antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

Pharma Firm Gets FDA Approval For ADHD Drug, More Jobs Likely

The Food and Drug Administration granted marketing approval to Adzenys XR-ODT, an extended-release product developed by Neos Therapeutics to treat attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder treatment in patients age six and older. Leo Pharma Launches New Innovation Lab With $65M in Funding For Non-Pharmaceutical Dermatology Expansion

Denmark-based LEO Pharma, a well-established pharmaceutical company with a centered focus on skin care conditions, has announced a $65 million international initiative to take its already successful operation and put an effort into “beyond the pill” solutions. They have now established a separate unit, the LEO Innovation Lab, which will be building and testing applications, wearables and digital platforms with a specific focus on people living with psoriasis. Some of the areas they are looking to address (which medication-only treatment overlooks) are diet, as well as mental health and social well-being.
