Chinmay Shukla, Ph.D., is a clinical pharmacology reviewer at the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Center for Drug Evaluation and Research.

During his 10-month job search, Shukla took advantage of all the resources he could. He regularly checked job postings in the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) Career Center. At the AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition, he visited the Career Fair, where in addition to visiting several company booths, he carefully reviewed jobs that were posted on the Career Fair job board and submitted his résumé to the mail boxes that were made available for interested candidates. This is where he found his FDA job.

How To Get Noticed — Job Hunting Secrets For Career Changers
Forbes
Anyone who has been job searching using traditional methods — applying online, submitting resumes, responding to advertisements, etc. — knows you rarely even get an acknowledgment. There’s a reason people joke about a resume black hole. Pharma Business Model Must Change Radically
PharmaTimes
Pharmaceutical companies need to stop simply paying lip-service to patients and radically alter their business models if they are to meet increasing global demand while improving patient outcomes, says KPMG. The sector’s return on R&D expenditure has fallen in 20 years from an industry average of around 20 percent to 10 percent, new research from the advisory firm shows. Together with dramatically falling price-earnings ratios across the industry, this explains why investors are attributing less value to companies’ product pipelines, it says.

7 Reasons To Run, Not Walk, From the Job Offer
U.S. News & World Report (opinion)
As a job seeker, the goal is to get your foot in the door, ace that interview, land the job and power through negotiations. Well, not in every case. Keeping in mind that the interview is your opportunity to quiz your potential employers while retaining your power as they evaluate you, it’s not always such a good move to accept a job offer. While it may feel like a victory lap if you’re looking to get out of your current role, or if you’ve been on the bench seeking to get back into the job market, entering a potential no-win situation will only leave you with a new problem on your hands. Or, rather a continual one: Looking for yet another job.

3 Pharmas With Triangle Operations Rank Among Top 10 in Revenue
Triangle Business Journal
Novartis came in second with $58 billion in revenue, while GlaxoSmithKline and Merck & Co. ranked sixth and seventh, respectively, as each earned just more than $44 billion in revenue, according to an analysis published by FiercePharma, an industry blog. Johnson & Johnson led the group by a wide margin, bringing in more than $71 billion in revenue last year. Glaxo, which has North American headquarters in Research Triangle Park, still relies heavily on sales of respiratory drug Advair, a product that has maintained strong sales thanks in no small part because of the Diskus delivery method that has proved difficult to copy.
