Improving Security and Protecting the Public Areas of Airports
Thursday, February 15, 2018
1:00 PM – 2:30 PM EST
While the passenger checkpoint has served as a focal point of airport security, recent high-profile attacks at international and U.S. airports have elevated the importance of security, emergency response, and recovery efforts in the public areas of terminals. Each incident has resulted in a wealth of information on passenger reactions, first responder actions, and potential lessons learned on how future incidents can be mitigated. This ACC Institute online training program will focus on an assessment of the shooting and spontaneous evacuations that took place at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in early 2017, and specific recommendations identified to help respond and rebound from similar future incidents. Recent activities and recommendations identified by the industry and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) on information sharing, attack prevention, and infrastructure and public protection will also be explored.
