A Little Spilled Paint Can't Stop Business
I remember a memo from management my colleagues and I once received early in my professional career. It announced that employees were no longer allowed to ship cases of pavement marking paint in their airline-checked luggage. As it turns out, an engineer with several advanced degrees had put a case of aerosol paint in checked luggage to avoid heading to a hardware store at his final destination. Of course, the cans exploded, and my colleagues and I got a new company-wide policy.

In October 2010, the General Services Administration (GSA) was caught in a mess of its own. Three hundred of nearly 13,000 employees were sent to a spa and casino outside of Las Vegas to enjoy a conference that was admittedly and purposefully "over the top." Unfortunately, taxpayers were left paying the $822,000 bill.

ACC Members: Provide comments on FAA Draft Advisory Circular 150/5100-14
ACC
Last week, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) released the draft update of AC 150/5100-14, Architectural, Engineering, and Planning Consultant Services (draft version 14E). This advisory circular provides guidance for airport sponsors in the selection and engagement of architectural, engineering, and planning consultants. It also discusses services that normally would be included in an airport grant project, types of contracts for these services, contract format and provisions, and guidelines for determining the reasonableness of consultant fees. ACC has convened a task force to review the draft AC and develop comments on behalf of the membership and also welcomes comments and concerns from all member companies. Please send your comments to Chris Spaulding at chriss@acconline.org by Wednesday, July 2.
