Ryanair to Trim Aircraft at Main London Hub by 40 Percent Over Winter, Cites High Costs

Ryanair Holdings PLC said Tuesday it will heavily reduce flights from its main London hub for the second winter in a row, citing high costs and seasonally lower demand. The airline said it will base 24 aircraft at Stansted Airport from October through March, down from the current 40. More

Airlines Say Airport Fee Increases are Hurting Ability to Weather Economic Crisis

2009 ACC/FAA/TSA Summer Workshop Series
A total of 194 airport consultants, vendors, and FAA and TSA agency representatives attended the 2009 Summer Workshop Series (SWS), exceeding last year's attendance despite the current economy. With nearly 60 attendees from government agencies, valuable interaction took place among FAA, TSA and the airport development community. Participants heard from FAA Acting Associate Administrator Kate Lang and TSA Assistant Administrator, Office of Security Technology Robin Kane, who discussed their agency efforts to obligate the economic stimulus grants and their FY 2009-2010 funding plans. Interactive technical sessions were featured in the Engineering/Safety, Environmental, Planning/Safety and Security/Terminal Workshops. Many thanks to SWS Committee Chair Mark Koester, P.E., with Stantec Consulting Inc, Vice Chair Wayne Seiler, P.E., with All About Pavements, Inc. and the Workshop hosts for their help in making the event a success!

2009 ACC/FAA/TSA Summer Workshop Series
LaVerne Reid, Manager of the FAA New England Region Airports Division, and Mark McClardy, Manager of the FAA Western Pacific Region Airports Division, were presented the 2009 ACC Agency Best Practices Award. The Award recognizes excellence in individuals, teams or organizations that work closely with the airport consultant community. In presenting the award Charlie McDermott with C&S Companies acknowledged Reid's and McClardy's collaborative approach to improving their regions' airport system.

ACC Security Technology Day
During the first ever ACC Security Technology Day nearly 150 airport security industry representatives were briefed by the TSA Office of Security Technology on current and future security programs, spending plans, and emerging technologies. This one-of-a-kind gathering was immediately viewed as a success and plans are already underway for a follow-up event. Special thanks to TSA Associate Administrator of OST Robin Kane for demonstrating his support of the industry by enabling this event to occur; as well as to ACC Board member Susan Prediger with CAGE, Inc. and to TSA's Bob Cammaroto for their efforts in organizing the conference. More

April 2009 Airline Traffic Data: System Traffic Down 5.6 Percent in April from 2008 and Down 9.1 Percent for January-to-April
