Leslie Grey, Lead Environmental Program Manager in the FAA Alaskan Region Airports Division, named recipient of 2014 ACC Agency Best Practices Award

The Airport Consultants Council (ACC) is pleased to announce the selection of Leslie Grey with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Alaskan Region Airports Division as recipient of the 2014 ACC Agency Best Practices Award. Grey was specifically recognized for her stakeholder outreach during an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for runway safety area improvements in Kodiak, Alaska. The award was presented during the ACC Airports Technical Workshop Awards Luncheon on July 29, 2014.

ACC, FAA Engagement on Priority Topics at the 2014 Airports Technical Workshop

Over 120 aviation engineering, planning and environmental project experts gathered in Arlington, Virginia July 29-30 to discuss the latest technical issues facing the industry with a number of key representatives from the FAA Airports Planning and Environmental Division and Airport Engineering Division. Special thanks to: ACC Engineering Committee Chair Doug Sander, Delta Airports Consultants, Inc., Vice Chair Katie Chou, Hatch Mott MacDonald; ACC Planning & Environmental Committee Chair Brad Rolf, Mead & Hunt, Inc., Vice Chair Bart Gover, Parsons Brinckerhoff; and John Dermody and Danielle Rinsler from FAA for their roles in the program planning.

Event Highlights
  • New FAA Associate Administrator for Airports Eduardo ‘Eddie’ Angeles opened the workshop, introducing himself to attendees, providing an overview of priorities and stressing his belief in the importance of long-term investment in our airports.
  • Dennis Roberts with the FAA Air Traffic Organization provided an update on NextGen and the FAA’s ongoing work regarding unmanned aerial systems (UAS) becoming part of the NAS.
  • MWAA Contracting Officer Ramon Paez and Liz Bryant, manager of the MWAA Procurement and Contracts Department joined the Planning and Environmental Committee to discuss details of their procurement process, including their on-call contracting and selection.
  • FAA Great Lakes ADO Manager Sue Mowery-Schalk provided an update on FAA Field Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Student teams from the University of Rhode Island, University of Colorado-Boulder, and Roger Williams University presented their First Place winning projects from the 2014 FAA Design Competition for Universities.
