CMS Delays Rule To Improve Home Health Agency Care
Home health agencies are getting an additional six months to prepare for a new CMS rule aimed at improving quality and patient care.
The rule, first proposed by the Obama administration, required new training for staff and administrators and more coordination of care. Industry stakeholders asked the CMS for more time to comply with the rule. The CMS responded by delaying the original effective date from July 13 to Jan. 13, 2018.

New Outpatient Antibiotic Therapy Program Cut Hospital Readmission Rates in Half
Infection-related hospital readmission is a risk for patients who are receiving outpatient care with intravenous (IV) antibiotic treatment. However, recently, a team of healthcare providers developed a treatment program that succeeded in cutting readmission rates for this population in half.
Outpatient parenteral antibiotic therapy (OPAT) allows healthcare providers to administer IV antibiotics to patients to treat a wide range of infections in the patient’s home environment, an office, or clinic. With the development of OPAT programs, healthcare providers can continue to safely give their patients infection treatment while reducing healthcare costs and the length of hospital stays.

Value-Based Care Driving the Future of Healthcare
By Scott E. Rupp
The pricing of healthcare is creating pressure for those who innovate and drive both the science and new business models of it. Accordingly, such pressures may have the ability to transform the industry, research by Lazard's Global Healthcare Leaders Study points out. BCRA Support Falters: GOP Governors, Insurers and Public Oppose Bill
By Seth Sandronsky
Backing for the Better Care and Reconciliation Act, Senate Republicans' version to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, is faltering. In one sign of party disunity, President Donald Trump recently tweeted a "repeal then replace" Obamacare message that Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell quickly dismissed. Meanwhile, a recent NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll of 1,200 adult Americans found that 17 percent of respondents approve of the BCRA.
