Claire P. Holdredge Award
AEG
This award, first established in 1962 by the Association of Environmental and Engineering Geologists, is named in honor of Claire P. Holdredge, a founding member and the first president of the association. The award is presented for a publication by an AEG member(s) within the five previous years that is adjudged to be an outstanding contribution to the Engineering Geology profession.

Nominations for this award are made by the membership at large. The Awards Committee, at its discretion, selects a candidate from the nominees for confirmation by the president. The award, not necessarily conferred annually, consists of an engraved plaque that is presented at the Annual Banquet. Nominations are due March 15 and should be submitted to headquarters.

EARTH Magazine
Just over a year ago, in a cavernous room of the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco, Calif., hundreds of geophysicists, seismologists, volcanologists and climate scientists, as well as a few journalists and a lawyer or two, sat transfixed as a panel discussed the manslaughter conviction of six scientists and a public official in Italy a few months earlier.

Smoky Mountain News
To Jenifer Bauer, the conditions couldn’t be better for a hike. It’s cold and soggy. There’s no leaves left, nothing green at all on the forest floor save the rhododendrons and mountain laurels. Even the views are dreary and gray, leaving nothing better to look at than the ground beneath her feet.
