    Commentary: Pink slime lawsuit will be tough to prove

    Three years after Robert Danell died from an E. coli O157:H7 infection, food safety lawyer Bill Marler is suing processors, distributors and retailers, including JBS USA, Tyson Fresh Meats and Beef Products Inc., on behalf of Danell's estate. Other defendants include Upper Lakes Foods, J&B Wholesale Distributing, Coborn's (Cub Foods), Unipro Foodservice, Rochester Meat Co. and Branding Iron Holdings. The suit alleges, among other things, that some of the beef traced back to JBS related to a 17-state illness outbreak in 2009 was sold to BPI to make lean finely textured beef, which was blended into ground beef products by Tyson Fresh Meats and consumed by Danell. More

    Uninspected poultry products being recalled
    USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service
    Humphrey's Market Inc., a Springfield, Ill. establishment, is recalling approximately 2,764 pounds of frozen, ready-to-eat and raw poultry products because they were produced without the benefit of inspection. The products were also misbranded after being repackaged and may contain soy, wheat and milk, known allergens not declared on the label.
