New GM potato gets US approval

French fry giant J.R. Simplot's petition for "non-regulated status" for its proprietary biotechnology potato called Innate has been approved by the United States Department of Agriculture. The potato is modified to be less vulnerable to blight and bruise less easily.

Sysco extends merger pact with US Foods to May

Sysco is extending it agreement to acquire rival US Foods Inc. by two months, in anticipation of antitrust hearings set to start in May. The FTC has challenged the merger, saying it would create a monopoly.
