State agencies to get funding for federal truck safety study

In an effort to better understand the safety performance of heavier vehicles, the FMCSA and the FHWA are partnering to implement the Specialized Heavy Vehicle Inspection Study Cooperative Agreement, which provides funding to state agencies responsible for large truck roadside safety inspections. The purpose of the study is to collect safety data from roadside inspections on vehicles exceeding certain weight levels to determine if there are any associations between higher vehicle weights and motor carrier safety violations, particularly those with out-of-service conditions.

E. coli forces recall of ground beef

Town and Country Foods Inc. is recalling roughly 1 ton of ground and tenderized beef products, including burger patties, stew meet and sirloin filets, after regular testing indicated a potential for E. coli contamination. All products were produced April 4-10 and shipped to wholesale and retail outlets in Maine.
