Organic brands caught in fight over Prop 37
brandchannel
Similar to what happened to automakers after California took an extreme position on cutting emissions, food and beverage companies are concerned that California will serve as a bellwether in GMO labeling regulation. In a particular bind in this fight are the many mainstream food conglomerates that now own organic brands.

Editor's note: AFFI is a member of a diverse coalition of food, nutrition, tax and consumer organizations working to stop this misguided food labeling scheme. For more information, please click here.

    The Washington Post
The release of a recording of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney at a private fundraiser in May telling donors "there are 47 percent of the people . . . who are dependent on government, who believe they are the victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them . . . I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives" is the latest body blow for a campaign that can't seem to get out of its own way of late.

    Why Barack Obama is winning
    POLITICO
Barack Obama's lead in the polls — despite high unemployment, a majority of Americans believing the country is on the wrong track and a historic high number of people on food stamps — is proving politics isn't just about numbers, and some traditional leading indicators look as if they are losing their predictive power. Obama's lead is the result of three powerful factors, according to interviews with some two dozen political veterans from both parties.
