Perdue Farms has entered into an agreement with the private equity firm LNK Partners to acquire Natural Food Holdings, owner of the Niman Ranch, SiouxPreme Packing and Prairie Grove pork businesses. Terms of the transaction were not released.

Household food insecurity unimproved in 2014 despite economy
Despite the improving economy, there was no meaningful decline in household food insecurity again last year. The Agriculture Department says that 14 percent of U.S. households were food insecure in 2014 - meaning that they had difficulty at some point during the year getting adequate nutrition. There was no statistically significant change in the rate from 2013 at 14.3 percent or 2012 at 14.5 percent.
Small amount of ground beef recalled in NY for possible E. coli contamination

Schrader Farms Meat Market of Romulus, NY, is recalling approximately 20 pounds of ground beef product that may be contaminated with non-O157 Shiga toxin-producing E. coli, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced Tuesday.
