The U.S. Department of Energy has released a new report highlighting the benefits of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to small businesses throughout the renewable energy industry and environmental management sector. The report found that as of early this month, small businesses have been selected to receive nearly $5.4 billion in funding across a number of ARRA and related programs, including loans, loan guarantees, grants, contracts and tax incentives, in partnership with the Department of the Treasury. Manufacturing will see stronger recovery than the general economy, according to a new report by the Manufacturers Alliance/MAPI. "A recovery is clearly under way. Boeing says it will speed up its production plans for its 747 and 777 jet models. The Chicago-based jet maker says it's doing so "in anticipation of greater demand from commercial airlines in a couple of years," The Associated Press writes. AP adds both jet types "are wide-body planes capable of carrying more than 300 passengers and flying longer routes. A wind project developer has floated a $4 billion plan that includes offshore wind farms in Lake Michigan and luring a wind turbine manufacturer to western Michigan. Chanhassen, Minn.-based Scandia Wind Offshore LLC wants to build a wind facility six miles off the coast of Grand Haven. With that and two other wind farms it has proposed in the area, the company said it would work to bring a wind turbine manufacturer potentially employing about 3,000 people. China's domestic steel market, suffering from oversupply, will see a series of reforms soon to address deep-rooted problems such as disorderly imports, according to a vice-chairman of the China Iron and Steel Association, which is currently leading the country's annual price negotiations with the world's top three iron ore miners.
