Ford's turnaround gains momentum

After more than $16.8 billion in losses since 2005, Ford Motor Co.'s North American division has been gaining momentum and recently posted a quarterly profit - early evidence of a successful turnaround, according to Mark Fields, Ford executive vice president and president of the Americas. More




AK Steel to hike prices for carbon steel products

AK Steel Holding Corp., a supplier to the U.S. auto industry, said Friday that it will hike spot market prices for its carbon steel products, effective Jan. 1. Base prices for hot rolled products will increase by $20 per ton and base prices for cold rolled and coated products will increase by $30 per ton over the company's current spot market prices. More


Boeing breaks ground at North Charleston

Charleston will initially produce the standard 787-8, but Marco Cavazonni, VP and general manager of final assembly and delivery, Boeing Charleston, would not speak to the possibility of future production of the stretched -9, the short-range -3, the double stretched -10 or any other aircraft here. Another Boeing official clarified this by saying, "We will have the capability in Charleston to produce both 787-8s and 787-9s, but we will start out with producing just 787-8s." More

Chrysler Group LLC plans to invest $179 million and create 155 jobs at its Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance plant in Dundee over the next five years. It plans to build its advanced 1.4-liter engines there for the automaker's line of small vehicles. More

Spyker Cars, Netherlands based luxury carmakers which manufacturer's up-to 50 units a year, mostly targeted to the US market, has recently announced its plans to move its assembly plant to Coventry, England. The news has been well received in the U.K., with Paul Everitt, chief executive of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, asserting that "investment in UK automotive facilities is good news for the industry." GM to release plan for European units in December

General Motors Co. said it expects to release a full restructuring plan for its Opel and Vauxhall operations in mid December, but did not specify the amount of cuts to capacity and jobs it would seek. GM Europe released a statement late Thursday in response to what it said was a "misrepresentation" by the daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, which claimed that GM wanted to maintain all its European plants. More


Volkswagen to triple south China sales by 2018

Europe's biggest carmaker, Volkswagen, plans to more than triple its sales in south China by 2018 as a main driver for its strategy to double sales to 2 million units in the country by that time, its China chief said. Volkswagen, which competes with General Motors and others globally, is stepping up its presence in China which has overtaken the United States as the world's largest auto market this year. More
