The American Gem Trade Association (AGTA) provided the results of the 2009 AGTA GemFair™ Tucson, held February 4-9. Attendance was down compared to last year and buying was conservative by those companies in attendance. Although buying activity was slower, many companies were still in Tucson to restock their inventory with gemstones, pearls and finished jewelry. More

AGTA GemFair Seminars Available on DVD

The American Gem Trade Association (AGTA) recorded the GemFair Seminar Program in Tucson for the first time this year using a new technology that combines audio recording synched with the speaker’s PowerPoint presentation. The Association is distributing complimentary copies of the 25-seminar DVD-Rom to every member company and is making the recordings available to non-members for a nominal fee. More

ICA Congress 2009

The 2009 ICA Congress will be a six-day international conference addressing current colored gemstone industry topics focusing on global trade and business development in China. The ICA Congress is being held in China’s largest jewelry manufacturing area, Panyu, Guangzhou, from May 5-10, 2009. Industry leaders from around the world will exchange trade updates and views through presentations and discussion sessions designed to encourage lively debate and networking. The ICA Congress is expected to draw the largest number of attendees to date. Exciting excursions and activities complete the full schedule of networking events. The first ICA Congress was held in 1985 in Idar-Oberstein, Germany. Gemfields Appoints New CEO

Gemfields has appointed Ian Timothy Harebottle as the new CEO of the company. He has replaced Sean Gilbertson who held the position since June, 2008. Harebottle, 46, is a veteran of the coloured gemstone industry. Most recently he was the chief executive officer of Tanzanite One Ltd; having joined the company as operations director in September 2001. More

Global Pearl Industry Congregates in Dubai
