AGTA Changes GemFair Day Pattern for 2010

The American Gem Trade Association (AGTA) announced today that it is changing its day pattern for the 2010 AGTA GemFair™ Tucson. The GemFair has traditionally started on Wednesday and closed on Monday. It will now start on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 and close on Sunday, February 7, 2010. More    E-mail article

Opal News from Brazil and China

In February 2009 a large parcel of Brazilian rough opal was purchased by a top Chinese cutting factory. This parcel was mined near Pedro Segundo in Northeastern Brazil. The Brazilian opal is hand mined in open pit quarries. This marks the first time in many years that a substantial amount of Brazilian rough material has entered the market. Police Arrest Two Members of ‘Pink Panther’ Jewelry Theft Ring

The French police have arrested Zoran Kostic, 39, and Nikola Ivanovic, 36, two men suspected of being members of the Pink Panther international jewelry gang. Representatives of the Interpol and police forces all over Europe gathered for a two-day conference in Monaco in March in order to pool information about the Pink Panther jewelry gang, with representatives from 16 countries, including the United States, Japan and the United Arab Emirates. Color Marketing Group: Purple, Blue Must Haves for 2009

Purple is a hot fashion color this year and has been in the limelight since last fall. Grayed-out violets are in and they work very well as an accent or as a neutral. Some redder, plummier purples are making an appearance. The CMG tells us that purple is the "must have" color in 2009. Green was the big deal in the past with all the green-living push we've had, but now it's blue. And the blues that are popular include watery blues and sky blues mostly, but just about any blue you might choose will fit into the color trend for this year and a few more years to come.
