Two robbers are locked away after attempting to fool a quick-thinking locksmith. A call on Jan. 5 to the 1400 block of West 27th St. tipped off A-1 Locksmith employee Moshe Uziel, who had heard of a carjacking at gunpoint of another locksmith at the exact location last month. According to a police report, Uziel contacted this carjacking victim, Aric Ifergan. The two then re-dialed the caller to confirm the order, and Ifergan recognized the man as the person who had called him. The two locksmiths called police and told them their story. More

Lock company Schlage is launching Schlage Link, a suite of products to allow over-the-Web control of a home's locks, lights, and thermostats. It also integrates with Webcams.
The new lock is the centerpiece of the system. It can be opened by key, with a four-digit code, or through the online and mobile sites. The lock can also alert its owners via a mobile message when it's opened or tampered with (when incorrect codes are entered multiple times in a row).
