Security Professionals Fear Smartphone Threat

Wireless Door Locks Provide Relief at Mount Holyoke College

Wired locks were proving difficult at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass. Because of this the college turned to wireless doors both to provide more security for its 2,100 female students, and to give some administrative relief to campus personnel.
The college’s previous encounter with wired doors hadn’t gone well, says Douglas Vanderpoel, director of the college’s Auxiliary Services. The college wanted to enable students to access their dorms with by just swiping a magnetic stripe student ID card.

Professional Warns of Unlicensed Locksmiths

David Greer is a licensed locksmith in Middle Tennessee with 10 years experience.
Lately, he said he's been getting complaints about locksmiths who promise one thing and deliver another. Greer said the so-called locksmiths list their names and numbers in the phone book and give false addresses.
Greer said one such locksmith lists an address on 8th Avenue South. The address belongs to a restaurant. In fact, he said he's found around 15 listings which instead took him to everything from gas stations to restaurants.
Greer said none of the companies are listed as licensed locksmiths in Tennessee.
He said every legitimate locksmith will have a license number on hand, as well as posted on their vehicle. The Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance says customers should always ask your locksmith to show their license.
