8 fresh takes on bike security
Bike Radar
Bike locks have a simple task of keeping your bike in the same place you left it. However, bike theft remains rampant worldwide — and once your bike is gone, it's pretty hard to get back. In the past, bike locks have been a "give and take" piece of kit — either secure and heavy, or lightweight and relatively easy to "crack." They also integrated poorly with many bikes, needing extra mounting brackets or to be carried in a backpack/pannier.

Functional 'Trusted Voice' smart lock option rolling out to some users
Android Police
According to author Liam Spradlin: Back when Google Play Services 7.0 rolled out, we noticed partial support for something called Trusted Voice. As a smart lock entry, it was fairly obvious that the option would allow users to unlock devices with their voice, but the necessary setting in the Google app wasn't visible just yet. Now, we've heard from multiple users that the fully formed feature is rolling out. As our previous post pointed out, tapping the option under smart lock will take users to the Google app's settings.

Flir, Netgear, Linksys Wi-Fi security cameras have you covered
eWeek
Small business-owners — or homeowners — who want to have a well-covered view of their premises are no longer reliant on heavy, bulky security cameras that look like a relic from Cold War spy culture. Today's compact, and dare we say stylish, cameras offer an impressive array of features and look more like something James Bond would be caught deploying. Recently, Flir Systems announced the launch of the FX, a compact WiFi-enabled HD camera that integrates cloud-based analytics and flexible application-specific mounts.

Are city surveillance camera regulations being ignored?
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
A largely ignored privacy law that Bill Peduto pushed for when he was a Pittsburgh councilman should be enforced but loosened to allow police to look further back in time using surveillance footage, the mayor said. The city's Privacy Policy for Public Security Camera Systems, hashed out in 2008 between council and then — Mayor Luke Ravenstahl, set rules on where the city can surveil, who may see the footage and how long it should be stored.

Forget campaigns: Build your marketing stack
By Randall Craig
Most marketers think of themselves as builders. Their work grows the organization, grows market share, grows the portfolio of products and services. A bit more tactically, the marketer builds page views, conversions and social engagement. Underlying all of these activities, the marketer builds relationships. But is there merit in growing marketing itself? Not the ad spend or departmental head count, but the number of simultaneous marketing initiatives that the organization can successfully run?

Don't let desperation drive your decisions
By Anne Rose
You're short-handed and desperately need to hire another employee, so you hire the first breathing person that mails in a job application. Or maybe your bank account is desperately low and you need a client fast, so you accept the first prospective customer who calls on the phone. We've all been in those situations and know the fear and panic that can set in. But when desperation drives an impetuous decision, it seldom solves your initial problem and usually adds more problems. The wrong person is worse than no person.
