Scammers Target Locksmith Customers

Someone's cutting into ALOA member Cothron's Safe and Lock in Austin, Texas, scamming the 60-year-old company's customers. "We have had customers call us and want to know when we're coming back on jobs we've never been on," Cothron's Operations Manager Jim Hancock said. "When we've gone out, we've found out that these other folks are basically the ones that have been out there." Many of them don't have licenses, and they target customers on the Internet. If a person types in "locksmiths in Austin" in a Google search engine, they will get a list that has Cothron's at the top. The phone number attached to it, though, isn't even Cothron's--it's the scam artist's.

Video Surveillance is Becoming a Sought-after Technology to Provide Security

The issue of security in industrial buildings was often a secondary issue—on the radar screen, but not the front burner. Safety was always paramount and generally addressed through instrumentation, fail-safe design, documented procedures, training and good management. Today, the world is very different, and security has become the new, high-priority issue. Protecting the operating integrity of a plant, a system, and personnel is now a strategic imperative.

Success Breeds Success in Small Business

Successful small businesses come in all sizes and specialties, but their leaders all share one essential attribute -- positive, can-do attitudes that transcend everything they do. Believing in yourself and your ability to succeed does more than simply sustain you through the challenges of getting your business started. It also spreads through your company and beyond. When you "walk the talk" and follow through on your commitments, your managers and employees perform their jobs with more confidence. Vendors, customers and prospects know that you'll come through for them as well. Among the ways you can make successful thinking contagious in your business is by emphasizing long-term potential over short-term thinking.
