ALOA PRP Re-certification Program

The security industry is in a constant state of evolution. To protect the integrity and advance the professionalism of the RL, CRL, CPL and CML designations, the ALOA Board of Directors through the ALOA Education Department (AED) has mandated that all members of ALOA hold and maintain an ALOA recognized program designation and that all holders of ALOA certifications pursue professional development and continuing education in order to maintain their proficiency and credibility.

As specified in the ALOA Bylaws, which became effective on January 1, 2006, there are four exemptions to this requirement which are:

  1. Persons who are 50 years of age or older, or who have been a member for at least twenty years are exempt as long as they maintain continuous membership in ALOA.
  2. Persons who are 40-49 years of age, or who have been a member for 10-19 years are exempt for five years from January 1, 2006.
  3. Persons who are under 40 years of age, or who have been a member for less than 10 years are exempt for three years from January 1, 2006 or their enrollment date whichever is later.
  4. Persons whose business address is located outside of the United States are exempt regardless of age or years of membership.
Recertification requirements established by the AED involve obtaining sixteen (16) points or credits within the recertification term which is three years. These points or credits can be obtained in areas such as: education; training; writing; and volunteer leadership in locksmith/security and/or business management associations. The AED will review and revise activities approved for credit as appropriate.

Organizations that wish to have their training approved by the AED must submit their class descriptions including the length of the training to the AED. Once their training has been approved and points have been assigned, they must forward a roster of students for each training activity to the AED so that the info can be entered into the members’ database records.

Individuals who are holders of the RL, CRL, CPL and CML designations must submit. to submit a recertification activity form within 90 days of the expiration of their current certification. While documentation other than the activity form will not be required for application for recertification, the Certification holder may be asked to submit backup documentation when requested.

The re-certification fee is $25.00 for members and $180.00 for non-members, payable every three years. ALOA will send an invoice after the credit requirement is met. The fee is subject to change.
