Suit Claims Water Restrictions Unconstitutional from The Central Valley Business Journal A lawsuit filed by the Pacific Legal Foundation on behalf of Central Valley farms claimed that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s cutbacks of water pumping into California’s main water system is unconstitutional. According to PLF attorney Damien Schiff during a conference call today, the cutbacks that were imposed to protect the delta smelt, a small California fish federally protected under the Endangered Species Act, is a clear case of the federal government overstepping its bounds. Michigan Agriculture Grants Available, Include Floriculture from Up North Live The Michigan Department of Agriculture (MDA) recently announced the new federally funded Specialty Crop Block Grant Program through the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Ag Marketing Service to enhance the competitiveness of specialty crops. Proposals for the federal grants will be accepted now though July 7, 2009. The MDA will also be hosting several grant-writing workshops across the state this month to assist potential applicants in developing sound proposals, including a workshop in Traverse City. More
