National Assembly: RSVP for Almanac Focus Group
    from AOPA in Advance
Only a few spots remain but we'd like to remind you about the invitation to participate in an informal focus group of AOPA members regarding O&P Almanac, Sept. 22, 12-2 p.m., in Seattle. We hope you'll agree to be part of this brief discussion and luncheon. This focus group will explore reader preferences and attitudes regarding editorial content in the magazine. Information gathered will be used to further refine the publication and provide you and your fellow O&P practitioners with the most useful content possible. Your participation, as a reader, is critical for our success. We know that the publication can only succeed when it serves the needs of the member readers. Won't you agree to be part of this discussion group? Feedback from the focus group will only be shared with O&P Almanac staff and Editorial Advisory Board to guide them in their efforts. The focus group will meet during the National Assembly on Tuesday, Sept. 22, from 12-2 p.m. and will be conveniently located in the Issaquah Conference Room of the Sheraton Seattle Hotel, 1400 Sixth Avenue. We will serve lunch as a token of appreciation for your time and your professional opinions. Send your RSVP to Josie Rossi at jrossi@strattonpub.com.

She wants to make sure that people who need prosthetics will be covered under the plan. Right now she says there are so many caps and limitations it's hard for a person to be able to afford the prosthetic they need. more

REMINDER: AOPA Annual Business Meeting Part of Opening General Session
    from AOPA in Advance
AOPA's Annual Business Meeting (ABM) is testing a new format as part of the Opening General Session beginning at 7:30 a.m., Monday, Sept. 21, Ballroom B on Level Four of the WSCTC. AOPA members are being asked to cooperate in two time saving endeavors. First, to read the 2008 ABM Minutes in advance of the meeting so that their reading can be dispensed with by a motion to approve as written. Click here to read and download the minutes of the 2008 Annual Business Meeting. The second innovation is securing proxies in advance to make sure a last minutes scramble for a quorum doesn't delay the ABM or the rest of the general session program. AOPA members were sent an email on behalf of the AOPA Board member in their area soliciting their proxy to be held by the Board Member. The response has been terrific but a few more proxies are still needed. Click here to grant your proxy to a member of the AOPA Board. Complete the proxy form leaving the name of the designated Board Member blank - AOPA staff will have to insert the specific Board member as no one person may accumulate more than 10 proxies.

PDAC Coding Decision from CROW Boots
    from AOPA in Advance
The Pricing Data Analysis and Coding Contractor (PDAC) have just released a coding decision for the Charcot Restraint Orthotic Walkers, also known as a CROW walker or CROW boot. If you are providing a CROW walker the only codes that may be used are the following:

    College Park's Onyx® - Foot Balanced Energy, Ideal Comfort™.
Integrating a dynamic pylon, the multi-axial Onyx Foot allows active users to demand more. Highly customizable, the Onyx includes adjustable Stride Control for fine-tuning gait. The sleek Onyx delivers balanced energy with ideal comfort and enhanced terrain compliance. Three year warranty. Visit www.college-park.com or call 800.728.7950 for more information.

Upcoming Changes to the Orthopedic Shoe Policy
    from AOPA in Advance
Beginning Oct. 1 each claim line for orthopedic shoes must include the KX or the GY modifier. If the items you are providing meet the coverage criteria set forth in the policy, each claim line would include a KX modifier. If an item does not meet the coverage criteria or is a non-covered item (i.e. shoes not attached to a brace) the claim line must include the GY modifier and this claim line will be denied. Therefore, each shoe, insert or modification must include either the KX or the GY modifier. If a claim line doesn't include a modifier, then that line will be rejected and you will have to resubmit that claim line with the appropriate modifier.
